Charles Eddy McNeill was born in Lubbock, Texas, on Nov. 1, 1924, to Thomas Eddy and Nelle Marie McNeill. He passed from this life on Aug. 28, 2012. Charley was from a Lubbock pioneer family, the Stubbs and Caraway family, who settled the Skillet Ranch, located at 50th and Indiana Avenue, in 1892. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1942. He married the love of his life, Doris Jean Ashley, on Nov. 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on Sept. 25, 1991.
He served his country in the US Army Air Corp 507th Fighter Group, 465th Squadron, during World War II on IE Shima, off the coast of Okinawa. After returning from war, Charley became a building contractor and taught his boys the value of hard work and family values while on the job. He was an eternal optimist, always grateful for what he had. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Terry and Jeniene King, Tom and Beth McNeill, and Jeff and Karla McNeill, all of Lubbock; his sister, Mary Raper of Midwest City, Okla.; his grandchildren, Bryan King, Brandon King, Chris McNeill, Casey McNeill, Meaghan McNeill Bond, Patrick McNeill, Carrie Harrington, Andy Disher and Heather Lavielle; and great-grandchildren, Brycie King, Ryker King, Braxton King, Lillian McNeill, Abbi Respondek, Bryson Disher, Bradley Disher and Evelyn Lavielle. Visitation will be today, Aug. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 5740 West 19th Street. Graveside service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. The family requests memorials to Wounded Warrior Project.
