Carl lived in Huntsville, Alabama until 1946 then moved to Lubbock, Texas. His education included Carrol Thompson Junior High School, Lubbock High School, Texas Tech University, Memphis State University, and University of Tennessee Dental School.
He married Linda (Meltzer) in her home town of Ft. Smith, Arkansas on September 29, 1957. He volunteered in the U.S. Army, serving as a dental officer for two years. Then served three years as a reserve officer in the 413th Civil Affairs Unit reaching the rank of Captain, before moving to Lubbock in September of 1959. After 40 years of practicing dentistry he retired in 1997. Upon retirement he volunteered with the “Rockin Readers” at Bayless Elementary, the “Friends of the Library”, and Emeritus at Quails Ridge.
