Bruce Richardson Bennett, 64, of Lubbock, formerly of Denver City, Texas, passed on from this life on August 30, 2017. Bruce was deeply loved and respected by family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Bruce was born on April 16, 1953 in Denver City to Gene H. and Vera Bennett. Bruce played college football for Abilene Christian College before graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Texas Tech University. He grew up on the Bennett Ranch where the land, crops and animals all became a part of his very being. He loved the life he led as a cowboy, rancher and farmer and had an impeccable work ethic. Bruce met his wife, Karla, while only in junior high and they married on May 11, 1974.
His father, Gene H. Bennett, preceded Bruce in death. He is survived by his wife, Karla, his daughter Mitzi Christ and husband Jeff, and his son, Dusty Bennett; also his mother, Vera Bennett and his three siblings, Diane Naylor, Chip Bennett, and Becki Schwarz. He was called “Papa” by his two grandchildren, Thatcher and Lola Christ.
Bruce was a member of South Plains Church of Christ, a member of the Caprock Corvette Club, and he was a talented gun/knife engraver. He loved hunting and fishing, led beautiful prayers, and according to his grandson, was a “world famous singer. “
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, September 4, at Resthaven Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1pm on Tuesday, September 5 at South Plains Church of Christ.
Memorials may be made to the National Ranching Heritage Center and the American Cancer Society.
