October 17, 1973 – November 9, 2024
Born in Amarillo, Texas, and taken from us far too soon in Lubbock, Texas.
Brad Fetter was a one-of-a-kind soul—a giant in both heart and presence. At 51, he left behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, and love for the countless people who were privileged to know him.
Brad was preceded in death by his father, Bill Fetter Jr. He is survived by a family who adored him: his daughter, Kayla, and son-in-law Max; his son, Ryan, and daughter-in-law Taryn; and his cherished grandchildren, Konstantine, Storie, Paisley, and Paxton, who were the true lights of his life. His beloved mom, Lori, and stepdad, Henry Wilhelm, supported him through every turn and loved him unconditionally and completely. He had one inseparable sister, Julie, whom he cherished along with Justin, his favorite brother-in-law. He also leaves behind his step-sister Jennifer (husband Craig), as well as his step-brothers, Brandon Wilhelm (wife Kaci) and Heath Wilhelm. He also leaves behind a vast extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. The Fetter-Hilleary family alone includes hundreds, a testament to the life he lived and the bonds he created. And then, there was his “Best Good Friend” Kristy Reese, whom he was planning to marry, a love that filled his life with happiness until the very end.
If you ever needed anything, Brad “knew a guy.” His massive circle of friends and his legendary bear hugs could comfort or fix any situation. Known for his infectious laugh and rock-solid presence, Brad was the guy you wanted on your side if there was trouble. People talk about “the dash” representing life between birth and death, and Brad’s dash included challenges and triumphs that would have defeated a lesser soul. Losing his father at 16 was a heartbreak, and later surviving a fiery crash that nearly took his life showed his grit and resilience. No matter the hardship, Brad endured and pushed forward, always the fighter.
Brad’s love for cars ran deep, rooted in a passion shared with his dad. After his father wrecked the family’s prized Nova, he promised it to Brad when he turned 16. The car stayed in the garage until after Bill passed, and with the help of his Uncle David, Brad finally got it running. “Rude Blue 72” was born, bolted to the porch with a heavy-duty chain so no one could steal it. Brad’s love of “stuff” grew from there. He collected Camaros, dually trucks, Jeeps, antiques, ATVs, and hot rods, and there was always “Karma,” one unforgettable Camaro. His aversion to Fords was well-known, even adding a sticker on his son Ryan’s Mustang that read, “Built Ford tough with Chevy stuff.” Whether legal or street racing, Brad was always up for it; his life was filled with speed, joy, and the thrill of the open road.
Above all, Brad’s greatest pride was his children and grandchildren. Being a dad wasn’t always easy for him, but he wanted more than anything to be the best he could be. Later in life, he worked hard to make up for lost time. To Kayla, his “Daddy’s little girl,” he always wanted to protect you and was sorry he couldn’t do more. To Ryan, he loved watching you play football and couldn’t stop talking about you. For Konstantine, Storie, Paisley, and Paxton, he would have given up everything he had if you asked for it. Every moment with you was treasured; you were his true happiness.
Brad’s love for his family was unwavering. His mom, Lori, was his fierce protector, and Brad held Henry in highest regard for loving her so well. His sister Julie and her husband Justin shared countless laughs and adventures with Brad, and he loved them deeply.
And to Kristy, Brad’s love was boundless. He had even chosen a ring and was ready to propose, knowing that you brought him happiness in a way he had never known before. Though the future was cut short, he found joy in spending the rest of his life with you.
Brad’s life was big, bold, and unforgettable, just like the man himself. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience, and he will be missed beyond words.
Keep your foot on the pedal, Brad. We’ll catch up with you on the other side of the finish line.
