August 26, 1934 – September 26, 2023
Bobby Jones, 89, of Lubbock passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, in the early morning hours of September 26, 2023. Bobby enjoyed church worship and attending the Helping Hands Sunday School department at Calvary Baptist Church, until he could no longer attend, due to health issues. Previously, Bobby served as the “adopted” grandfather/deacon of the Children’s Ministry, spending time in the First Grade room, where his daughter, Donna, is a Sunday School teacher.
Bobby was in the Army Reserve, training soldiers from about 1958 through 1962. Bobby enjoyed fishing – lots of fishing! with his son, Kirby, and grandson, Zach. They also went on a few hunting trips together.
Bobby worked for Anderson Clayton Company, in the cotton industry, in Houston, starting about 1958, eventually taking over for his superior when he retired. Bobby, Beth and Donna moved to Lubbock, TX in 1988, when Anderson Clayton Company was bought out; he worked in Lubbock in the same field for Paymaster Oil Mills from 1988 - 1990, until that company was bought out. With the encouragement of John Hatchett, Bobby trained and became a Farmers Insurance agent, working for them 10 years before he retired in January of 2001.
Bobby took up woodcarving in 2006, and has done many caricatures, Santa’s, snowmen, penguins, and other small items, that he gave as gifts at Christmas. He was surprised to win a “Best in Show” ribbon at the South Plains Fair, in Lubbock, with a cowboy carving. It was exciting for him, as this was his first time to enter anything in the fair for judging!
Bobby was born August 26, 1934 in Wynnewood, OK to Aaron and Eunice Jones. The family moved to Purcell, OK and lived there until Bobby was around 11 years old, then they moved to Chickasha, OK. Bobby graduated from Chickasha High School in 1952, dated the love of his life, Beth, during their junior and senior years of high school, and they married in 1953; they were married for 64 years before her death in 2018.
Survivors include daughter, Donna Jones, of the home, in Lubbock, TX; son, Kirby Jones and wife Cindy, in Humble, TX; granddaughter, Christine Jordan and husband, James in Forney, TX; great-grandchildren Jessica, Hannah, and Aaron Jordan, in Forney, TX; grandson Zachary Jones and wife Casey, in Huffman, TX; great- grandchildren Jake, Ella, Emma, and Levi Jones, in Huffman, TX. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Eunice Jones, a brother Orville Jones, and wife, Beth.
Bobby was a loving and caring Dad/Pops and grandfather/great-grandfather, and friend. He will be dearly missed, but our family was so fortunate to have had him loving us for many wonderful years.
