With great sadness Blaz Sotelo Gutierrez, Sr passed away on May 31, 2023, after a lengthy illness. Blaz Gutierrez, Sr was born February 3, 1933, in Lubbock, Tx to Pedro Gutierrez, Sr and Nicholasa Gutierrez. Blaz Gutierrez married Ester Riojas on January 21, 1953. They have seven children. Blaz Gutierrez, Jr (Luz), Jesus Gutierrez (Rose), Antonio Gutierrez (Brenda), Louisa Pena (Roberto Pena), Josie Martinez (Ruben Martinez), Carlos Gutierrez (Diana), and Gloria Gutierrez (Andy Garcia). In addition, 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Blaz attended Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister, a Guadalupano, and a Cursillista. Blaz was the proud owner of Gutierrez Irrigation & Sprinkler Systems for 47 years.
Blaz Gutierrez will join his family in heaven. His parents, brothers; Pedro, Jr, Pablo, Severo, Jose, Frank, Alfredo, and Domingo and sisters; Dulcenea, Ramona, Virginia and Rosa; and grandson, Adrian Michael.
A visitation for Blaz will be held Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Resthaven's Abbey
Chapel, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A rosary will occur Sunday, June 4, 2023 at 6:00 PM, 5740 19th St., Lubbock, Texas. A mass of christian burial will occur Monday, June 5, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 3111 Erskine St., Lubbock, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Jacob Gutierrez, Augustine Medina III, Nicholas Medina, Blaz Gutierrez III, John Adam Hernandez and Mark Hernandez.
