Betty Sue McCreary was born on March 15, 1945 to Dosh T and Delilah Gail McCreary in Lubbock, Texas. Growing up, Sue played the piano and loved to read. In 1963, she graduated from Bellaire High School in Houston where she was a National Merit Scholar and a member of the Bellaire Belles, a drum and bugle corps.
After high school, Sue moved to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University. She majored in English, pledged Pi Beta Phi sorority, and met the love of her life, Ron Damron. They married in 1965 and began their military life shortly after. During their years in the Army, they were stationed at many military bases across the US. Sue stayed home with their children Kelly and Mark until they were both in school and Ron was out of the Army. She worked as a librarian at TCU while earning a teaching certificate in math. Sue began her teaching career at Fort Worth Dunbar High School followed by El Paso Riverside High School. When the Damrons moved to Lubbock in 1979, Sue began teaching at Atkins Junior High School and ended her 25-year teaching career at Hutchinson Junior High School.
Sue enjoyed watching her family play tennis. She spent countless hours watching Ron play in Army tournaments and driving Kelly and Mark to tournaments across Texas. She loved attending Texas Tech athletic events-from tennis matches and football games to SWC Tournaments, bowl games and the 1993 Lady Raiders National Championship.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Ron Damron, brother Gene McCreary and parents Dosh and Gail McCreary.
