Betty Jean Corbin Brock of Lubbock passed away September 8, at age 78. Betty was born July 3, 1936 in Ralls, Texas to Christine and Rufus Pace and attended Shallowater High School. She married Ray (Slim) Corbin in 1952. They had three children, and were married until his death in 1971. After returning to Lubbock, she worked briefly for the Texas Tech University Police Department while attending nursing school. She worked as a nurse in ICU/CCU at West Texas Hospital and Methodist Hospital before becoming a nurse at the South Plains Kidney Dialysis Center for 25 years.
She married Charles Leland Brock in 1980 and they were married until his death in 1996. After his death she moved to Grand Prairie, Texas and returned to Lubbock in 2012.
Betty was an accomplished gourmet cook and loved cooking and hosting gatherings for family and friends. She modified many of her recipes for her dialysis patients on restricted diets. She loved to paint and enjoyed gifting her works of art to family and friends. She was also an excellent seamstress and spent many hours sewing costumes, prom dresses, christening gowns and baby blankets for her children and grandchildren. She looked forward to gathering with friends and family and loved to engage in fellowship with all. She was a member of Highland Baptist Church and taught Sunday School there.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Christine Pace, a brother Stanley Pace, her husband’s Ray (Slim) Corbin and Charles Leland Brock, a grandson Jacob Corbin and her beloved dog, Oblio.
Survivors include her sisters Sue Gee and husband Bill of Jasper, Texas , Gayle Freeman Of Lamesa, Texas children Michael Corbin and his wife Leigh of Lubbock, Darrell Corbin and his wife Sandy of Medford, Oregon, LeAnne Corbin Bandy and her husband Chris of San Marcos, Texas. Stepchildren Brett Brock and his wife Toni of Austin, Texas, Jessica Brock Castro and her husband Frank of Lubbock, and Tyson Brock of Lubbock. She had 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
