Barbara Lovett Besse

Mrs. Lovett married Paul A Lovett in 1948. Mr. Lovett preceded her in death in 1962. In 1985 she married Arthur Besse. He passed away in 1991.

Mrs. Lovett graduated from Corsicana High School in 1943. Then she attended Texas Tech University where she graduated in 1947 with a degree in Music Education. Quite successful in her chosen field, Mrs. Besse served as past president of the Women Band Directors International, was inducted into the Women Band Directors Hall of Fame and the Phi Beta Mu Texas Band Directors Hall of Fame. As a band director in Ralls, Ropes, Petersburg, Lubbock, and Brownfield, she was a positive influence in the lives of many students.

She is survived by sons Rob Lovett and wife, Debra of Shallowater and Todd Lovett of Davie, Florida and a grandson, Brent Lovett of Austin.

The family gives heartfelt thanks to care givers Lupe Ybarra and Olga Barela, and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Covenant Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

A visitation will be held from 1 to 2:30 pm, Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Monday, December 26, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park, Celebration of life services will follow at 11 am at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel.
