Bert was best known by others as a hard working and kind man with a gentle heart and by his family as the man who could accomplish anything. Bert grew up in Missouri and moved to Colorado where he met his bride. He was a proud Army Veteran who served in the Korean War on the front lines. After starting his family his focus was always to provide a great life and values by demonstrating a strong work ethic, from working at the Steel Mills, Mines, to running his own Businesses and keeping busy with his children’s activities and volunteering in his community.
Bert moved to Lake County to work for Homestake Mine in 1988 with his family where he retired 20 years ago. Bert frequently would be seen at all his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events at local schools and enjoying family time. His family would describe him as the” Papa who could fix anything.”
He left behind his beautiful bride of 63 years, Dorothy Spencer, and his cherished family; children Mike Spencer (Canon City, CO), Patti (Pat) Ashby (Republic, WA), Kathleen Ahart (Kelseyville, CA), and Michelle (John) Forney (Plumas Lake, CA). He also leaves his seven grandchildren and tiny footprints of seven great grandchildren.
Services will be held in Lower Lake at Jones and Lewis Memorial Chapel on 8/17/14 at 1:00. Everyone welcome. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of Lake County.
