My memories of childhood with Mike are very special and will stay with me until I see him again. Many weekends our parents would take my two brothers, John and Mike, and myself fishing. John loved to fish but Mike and I would sneak off to explore. We climbed trees and hills, threw rocks, looked for fossils, wrote our name in the snow (you know what I mean), did the kind of thing young boys do. Once we were building a treehouse and I dropped a hammer on Mike’s head - oops that hurt.  We road our bikes up and down Garfield street, each time seeing who could do the most daring trick. I can still see him standing up on the seat hands free arms outstretched. We sat backwards on the handlebars and road all over the neighborhood. Mike was smarter than me. If we knew we were going to get licks for something, he would put a book in his pants. Once our cousins, Bob and Jim, built a covered wagon out behind grandpa’s nursery.  It was really neat, 55 gallon barrels for wheels, even had canvas cover over the top just like the real thing. We played cowboys and Indians. We tied Mike up inside the wagon. Not bad until Jim and I decided to shoot flaming arrows. Boy that old canvas top went up quick! Mike let us know he was not happy. I just remembered so many laughs and many stories. 

Brother Jerry

Mike came to visit us the first year Jerry and I were married.  I was sick when he came and he named it, I was pregnant with our first daughter, Tina.  He was so helpful and compassionate from the time we met.  Every time we visited, he  and Mary went out of their way to make us feel special.  He put the steaks on the pit and Mary baked her famous cinnamon rolls.  Mike did make you laugh and it was easy to feel welcomed.  Being part of the Strick family is always an occasion at their house to celebrate.  I celebrate Mike’s life.  What a wonderful individual he was to be part of my life and family.  Mary may God continue to bless you as he did when Mike was here with us on this temporal earth. May our reflections be on his goodness that he let abound.

Mary, Carrie, and Ernie,  I am so sorry to read of the loss of your wonderful husband and father.  I met you, Mary, and your family when we began working together at First Care in 1984.  Mike was so kind and soft spoken and always had a smile on his face.  We admired him for his service  in Viet Nam.  He had a great work ethic and was a great provider.  Mary,  you always had that great sense of humor and were always calm with so many responsibilities.  Thanks for visiting Vernon and me after we moved to Tucson...  I am sending  you lots of prayers that God will uphold you in your grief.  I am sure Vernon and Mike have already greeted each other at the Golden Gates.  I still miss Vernon everyday as you will miss Mike.


Mike was a good person, a nice person. Loved his family, always putting them first, as he did with his country.
 We are very proud to have known Mike, and for him to have known us.
God always takes the good ones first.

We were fortunate to grow up so close to our cousins.  As kids,  on Christmas Day, my Dad would often say, Let's run by Strick's and see what they got,  before we ALL went to Grandma Knapp's  for Christmas Dinner.  Huge Table and Lots of Family.    I might have taken some of it for granted then, but not now.   We were both 1949 - BOOMERS, as I was about 6 weeks older.   Mike's contribution and sacrifice in  Viet Nam service  is a part of the freedom my adopted cousins and others received.
