Janet Coffey

In high school Jan was an athlete excelling in basketball, softball, and track & field events. Her musical talents followed in her mother’s footsteps playing the piano and playing the saxophone in the high school marching band. Her singing voice would melt your heart singing in the church choir and many singing events. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1973, and a Masters Degree in Education from Iowa State University in 1989. She taught for many years in the Colfax-Mingo School District (Iowa), and after moving to Loveland in 2003 taught in the Reading Clinic for several years tutoring K-12 students. Jan loved animals, especially dogs and loving and caring for them was an important part of her life. She volunteered at the Animal House, Fort Collins, walking and caring for rescue dogs – several of which she brought home for foster care. One particular Jack Russell Terrier, Emma, was in her family for 13 years. Her hobbies included hiking, walking, reading and spending considerable time researching and documenting her family heritage. Janet was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Loveland.

Those left to treasure her memory are her husband of 52 years, Robert Coffey; son, Nathan Coffey of Estes Park; daughter, Lindsay Coffey of Loveland; sister, Marilyn (Stone) Feaker of Cedar Rapids, IA; niece, Sonya (Feaker) Schneekloth and her husband, Jeff and their children, Skyler and Riley; nephew, Gary Feaker and his wife, Lisa and their children, Callie Blackford, Macy DeBerg, and Logan; her special friends, Kim, Collete, Teresa, Biddy, and Pat who traveled with her on her journey; and numerous critters!

There will be a Celebration of Life in Loveland at a later date with her final resting place with her family at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
