Ann Montera, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on July 4, 2024, at the age of 75, surrounded by her loving family. Born Ann Gardner on February 18, 1949, in Pueblo, Colorado, she was the daughter of Dr. John Williams and Helen George Gardner.
Ann's passion for equestrian sports defined much of her early life. Riding alongside her sister Susan, she excelled in English riding, earning countless ribbons and trophies at events nationwide, including prestigious accolades at the Colorado State Fair and the National Western Stock Show.
In high school, Ann was involved in student leadership and the ROTC marching team, and was recognized for her academic excellence as a member of the National Honor Society. It was during these formative years that she met her future husband, Phil Montera, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and adventure.
After graduating near the top of her class, Ann attended Lindenwood College in Missouri before transferring to the University of Colorado. In 1969, she and Phil became engaged and married shortly thereafter, beginning a journey that took them to Oregon, Nebraska and ultimately settling in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Ann's life was marked by resilience and achievement despite health challenges. Diagnosed with autoimmune diseases at a young age, she defied medical odds by becoming a mother to Jeff in 1973 and adopting Hilary from Korea in 1977. Ann's determination led her to design and build six custom homes, manage a travel agency, start a successful catering business, work as a respected interior designer, and become an accomplished artist.
Ann was a devoted supporter of her children's pursuits, attending nearly all of Jeff's soccer games and Hilary's horse jumping and dance performances. Her love for travel took her to 67 countries, where she immersed herself in local cultures and art. Her artistic talents flourished in later years, creating unique designs and abstract impressionist artworks that reflected her vibrant spirit.
Ann is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Phil; her children, Jeff (wife Jill) and Hilary; grandchildren Ryan and Lucas Montera; her sister, Susan Pollack (husband Al); sisters-in-law Lucille Haag and Susan Coleman; brother-in-law Charlie Montera (wife Terry); and brother-in-law Ed Weishaar.
Ann's legacy of courage, creativity, and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who knew her. A celebration of Ann's life will be held on Friday, August 2 at 1pm at Ptarmigan Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Scleroderma Foundation Rocky Mountain Chapter or Pathways Hospice, in memory of Ann Montera. Please view the obituary and leave condolences for the family online at AllnuttLoveland.com.
