Bill was born April 14, 1931 , in Nebraska City, NE, the youngest son of Paul Frederic Wolph and Myrtle Chappelle Wolph. He graduated from Avoca (NE) High School in 1948, attended Doane College at Crete, NE (1948 - 1950), and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1952. After serving with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Stuttgart, Germany, from 1952-1954, he graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1957 and was admitted to the Nebraska Bar. From 1957 to 1968 , he worked as an attorney in the Office of the Solicitor, U.S. Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C. in 1968, he was appointed Chief, Division of Legislation in the Interior Department's Bureau of Outdoor Recreation. That same year, he was awarded the Juris Doctor degree by the University of Nebraska. He was named Chief in 1976 of the Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs, Bureau of Outdoor Recreation, which later became the Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service of the Department of the Interior. He retired in 1981 and went to care for his mother for the last 10 years of her life. He then moved to Florida, residing in Naples until 2005, when he moved to Louisville, KY.
Bill is survived by sisters-in-law Edna Wolph (John, NE) and Carol Wolph (Jim, KY). Nieces; Liz Brum (NE), Jean Wolph (IN), Sue Wolph (Gene Coffman, MI). Nephews; Steve Wolph (Cindy, NE), Bob Wolph (Debbie, KY), Randy Wolph (Shirley - Deceased, NE), Alan Wolph (NE), and 11 great nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Bill's life will be held 10 am Wednesday in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Graveside services and burial will take place at 11 am on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at the Avoca Cemetery, Avoca, Nebraska.
