Bill was born and raised in Hart, Michigan. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University. He had a long career with Exxon Mobil Corporation as a retail district manager. The job took his family to many locations, including Louisville, Kentucky, where he raised his family. Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, and watching sports, particularly the University of Michigan Wolverines, and was a devoted family man who loved all the activities his children and grandchildren were involved in. Bill was beloved by family, friends and caregivers for his quick wit, sense of humor and unique style of showing affection. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Leila Purdy, and his sister, Marion Purdy McMahon.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edwina Purdy, his children, Steve Purdy (Sue), Laura Purdy Morrissey (John), Mike Purdy (Jenny), Diane Purdy Laspiur (Ernesto) and Sarah Purdy Coomes, his 14 grandchildren; Sean, Andy, Jamie, Alex, Spencer, Jayson, Michaela, Maria, Elizabeth, Miguel, Sofia, Thomas, Will and Trey, and his great grandchildren; Zwade, Lincoln, Halle and Lou.
Visitation services will be held from from 1:00-4:00pm on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Arch. L Heady & Son Funeral Home at Westport Village,7410 Westport Rd. There will be a private family service.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Bill’s name to Kentucky Sheriffs' Boys & Girls Ranch, Parkinson's Foundation or Hosparus Health. The family would like to thank the staff of Westport Place Health Campus and Hosparus for their loving care and compassion.
