Bill was born in Louisville, Ky. on April 14, 1940.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Willie M. Burton, his sister, Mary Vivian Garrett, and sister-in-law, Forrestine Cooper Edmondson.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 57 years, Lucille Cooper Burton. They would have celebrated their 57th anniversary on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. Bill is survived by three children: Terry D. Fulks (Charles), William F. III (Jenny), and Dana F. Wheeler; four grandchildren: Lilly Fulks, Charles Fulks, Sarah Wheeler, and Hayley Wheeler; Brother: David Burton; brothers-in-law Fred W. Cooper and Frank Edmondson; sisters-in-law Donna Cooper and Judy Burton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much.
He attended both the University of Louisville and Campbellsville University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Bill retired from Procter and Gamble after 30 years of service. He had previously been employed by Phillip Morris, Whitehall Laboratories and the Kendall Company. After his retirement, he found enjoyment in a new venture for 9 years as a representative in the Guest Services Department at Churchill Downs. There he developed close friendships with co-workers, owners, trainers, and jockeys.
Bill was a member of Southeast Christian Church, and was a former deacon at Third Avenue Baptist church and moderator of the Long Run Baptist Association. He had been involved in various civic organizations, including Hikes Point Optimist Club, Louisville Jaycees, and the Jeffersontown Rotary Club, serving as President. Bill was blessed with a full and wonderful life which included many friends and loved ones. He not only loved many people, he was loved by many people.
Visitaion will be held Wednesday, Aug. 22 from 2-8pm, the Funeral Service will be Thursday, Aug. 23 at 10am with a burial at Cave Hill Cemetery to follow.
