Born in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of William Frank Holmes and Mary Jane (Burns) Holmes. She was a proud graduate of Male High School class of 1963, and attended classes at Blue Mountain College in Mississippi, and Sullivan College in Louisville. Throughout her career, she was employed at various hospitals and doctor's offices as a medical transcriptionist for 40 years. She served as a National Board Director for the American Association of Medical Transcriptionists. She also worked for Goodwill Industries and the KY School for the Blind.
She was a member of Hikes Point Christian Church. She was active in the Red Hat Society for 15 years. She started her own chapter called the Glamorous Gals of Louisville, and had the title of Magic Wanda. She was an avid reader and enjoyed making afghans. When her health allowed, she loved to travel and managed to visit 38 states. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, long lasting friendships, and love for animals.
She is survived by her husband, daughter Karen Sue Hassel, and granddog Milo. She is also survived by her brothers George Landis Holmes and his wife Cindy, James William (Bill) Holmes, and many nieces and nephews whom she all loved dearly.
Wanda is predeceased by her parents, her sister Snow Ann Shelton, her sister-in-law Joyce Holmes, and her nephew Andrew Holmes.
Visitation will be at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Wednesday April 17, 2024 at 4400 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40218 from 3pm-8pm. The service will be held at Hikes Point Christian Church at 2601 Hikes Lane, Louisville, KY 40218 Thursday April 18, 2024 at 10:00am.
