Walter George "Willie" Williford, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
As the oldest of seven siblings, he was born on August 1, 1955, to the late Barbara Ann and Walter Jeptha Williford, Willie's life was marked by his intelligence, adventurous spirit, and the joy he found in the world around him.
Willie's journey began in Louisville, where he was a beacon of knowledge and curiosity. After a fulfilling 40-year career as a Med Tech at Norton Hospital, Willie retired, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and compassionate care. His colleagues remember him not just for his professional acumen but also for his warm camaraderie and willingness to mentor others.
Family was the cornerstone of Willie's life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Luz Williford; daughter, Hilary Bisig and her husband Richard; son, Alex Williford; grandchildren, Karli Bisig, Lillian Bisig, and Olive Williford; and great-granddaughter, Stella Frost. Willie's memory will also be cherished by his siblings, Bruce Williford and his wife Emilia, Susan Clemons and her husband Danny, Debbie Minter and her husband Jeff, and Sammi Williford. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Rebecca Greenwell and Christopher Williford. Willie's role as "Poppy" was one of his proudest achievements, and the love he had for his grandchildren and great-granddaughter was immeasurable.
An interesting man of many hobbies, Willie's passion for nature was evident in his love for hunting, fishing, and his impressive collection of insects from all over the world. His intellectual curiosity led him to explore the stars through astronomy, and he was always eager to share his latest findings with anyone who would listen. Willie was also musically inclined, teaching himself to play the guitar and finding solace and joy in music. His thirst for knowledge was unquenchable; if a subject piqued his interest, he would delve into it wholeheartedly, striving to learn everything he could.
Willie's life was a testament to the beauty of pursuing one's passions and the importance of family. His story is not just one of accomplishment, but also of the love and joy he brought to every life he touched. As we remember Willie, let us honor his spirit by embracing the wonders of the world with the same enthusiasm and curiosity he exemplified throughout his remarkable life.
