Virginia “Joy” Thompson, 87, of Louisville, KY lost her courageous battle with lung cancer on Wednesday, March 27, 2024. Born March 2, 1937, she was retired from Whayne Supply Company where she worked for many years in the accounting department. Joy was known for her giving heart and would be among the first to visit or lend a hand to others. She touched many hearts with her gentle ways and graceful manner. Joy was an active member of Harvest Baptist Church, a devout Christian, and embraced the church community as family.
She is survived by: her husband Gilbert “Ray” Thompson; children, Joseph D. Lile, II of Charleston, WV; and Gary Thompson (Lisa) of southern Indiana; 4 grandchildren, Heather M. Lile of Chicago, Ill., Timothy (Elizabeth) Thompson, Kira Thompson, and Tyler Thompson, all of the Louisville vicinity. Three (3) great-grandchildren Kinsleih, Kysen, and Samuel; her brother, Luther Chaney, of Louisville, KY; many extended family members, and a multitude of friends.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Onida Chaney; brother, Donald Chaney; and sister, Jan Blankenship.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024, services will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, KY 40213. Visitation hours are 12:00p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with funeral service immediately thereafter.
