He was born May 12, 1931 in Jefferson County, the son of Edward and Virgie Short.
Vernon installed hardwood flooring for over 60 years and owned Shorts Hardwood Floor Service. He was a member of Lexington Independent Church of God and the Carpenters Union Local #64.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Karen Short; three daughters, Brenda Black, Tonya Anderson and Verna Short; one son, Vernon Short, Jr. (Marie); nine grandchildren, Bryan, Aaron, and Craig Black, Stephanie Hyde, Holli and Stacy Anderson, Angela, Terri and James Short; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brayden, Kylie, Conner and Rylee; one brother, Milton Short and his nephew and best friend, Tommy Sapp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and six sisters.
A Service to Celebrate Vernon’s Life will be conducted at Noon on Saturday, April 6, 2013 in the Chapel of Arch L. Heady and Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-8 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
