Mr. Troy “Papa” Curtis, son of the late Charles E. Curtis and Sylvia Maddox Curtis, was born on September 16th, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He departed this life on January 9, 2024 at Audubon Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by family and friends.
He was a member of the Square Club, The Kosair Shriners, the Grand Lodge of Kentucky, F. & A.M. Robinson-Plumb (266) and Aahmed Grotto of Fairdale, Kentucky. He owned and operated Curtis Power Clean from 1988 to 2018 and was a member of Okolona Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Curtis; his son, David Curtis; his brother, Archie Curtis; and his twin brother, Roy Curtis.
Mr. Curtis had a generous heart, which was reflected in all the ways he touched the lives of those around him. From the famous tomatoes he grew and freely gave away, to the many times he opened his own home to relatives when in need. Mr. Curtis left a beautiful legacy full of selflessness and unmerited kindness. His personality was equal parts rambunctious troublemaker, and wise grandfather. He always had something clever to say, either about Hank Snow, the singing ranger, Minnie Pearl, or teenage love. He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the lake with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved poker and horse racing, the University of Kentucky Wildcats, and the Cincinnati Reds. He also loved sharing adventures with his family, including his yearly trip to Holiday World.
His influence will forever remain in the lives of those who knew and loved him; his son, Troy Allen Curtis; his grandchildren, Jasamine, Curtis, (Brandon), Brandon Curtis, Travis Curtis (Randi), Trevor Curtis, and Nathan Curtis; his great-grandchildren, Hailey Curtis (Dalton), Ryan Curtis, Nora Curtis, and Harrison Curtis-Texas and a great-great- granddaughter due any day now, Wrenley Mae Beckman, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Troy will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Highway, Louisville, Kentucky 40213. A service to honor the life of Troy will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Troy will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Mr. Curtis may be made to Aahmed Grotto of Fairdale, Kentucky or Kosair Charities.
