Born in Louisville, Ky in 1951, Tom was the oldest of four children. His siblings are Ted, JoAnn and Tim Hardin. He married Suzanna Picazo in 1973. They had three children and eight grandchildren. Their families are: Arianna and Jeremy Kirk with their children Ava and Nadia, Jerica and Alan Broeckling with their children Luke and Madelyn, and Adam and Laura Hardin with their children Oscar, Laurielle, Julia and Ebony.
He lived in Kentucky, Missouri, Indiana, Idaho, Texas and New Mexico. He spent time as an architectural draftsman, a pastor and as an educator. In 1995 he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Thereafter, he fought cancer for the rest of his life, and became a self-educated expert in holistic and alternative medicines.
He was an avid reader and was very knowledgeable about physics, astronomy, biology, history, poetry and literature. He was a poet himself and was published in Poetry Magazine and a Poetry anthology. In his final years he had been working on a handful of science fiction novels, one of which was near completion.
He was also a pillar of faith to many. He believed that living for Christ meant loving others with your life. He lived that, taking care of his family and always showing the same care and welcome to friends and guests as he did to his own family members. He was an example of prayer, and when praying for healing, always asked God for 100% health with no complications. He was a generous man. If he saw someone in need, he would try to provide what was needed.
Above all, he was a family man. He and Suzanna created a welcoming home for their children, their family, and friends. His children remember him as kind, gentle, honest, and funny. He was silly, always ready to lighten the mood with a joke or a movie quote. He asked good questions and loved a debate around the kitchen table. He was an educator at home, helping his kids understand math and science, and instilling in them a love for learning, reading and literature.
As a husband, Suzanna remembers him as strong, protective, and romantic. He was loving and kind. He supported her in her career, always encouraging her. He believed in her; he always made her feel like she could do anything.
Tom is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and siblings. Those of us whose lives he touched will miss him greatly.
