Susan Shackelford

She grew up on her parent’s farm in Oldham County and graduated from Oldham County High School. As a teenager she won awards for prize cattle at the local fairs. Susan went on to earn a Bachelor of Science with honors in Microbiology from the University of Kentucky and worked as a microbiologist and lab technician for most of her career. In her later years, she enjoyed being a tutor and substitute teacher.

Susan loved to read, garden, collect antiques and make quilts. She had a passion for researching and documenting her family’s genealogy. She had an amazing memory, never forgetting who’s who or a family member’s birthday. It was hard to beat her at any kind of trivia game.

Her steady presence, thoughtful advice and fierce loyalty will be truly missed. She is survived by her children, John Shackelford and Mia “Mattie Beth” Shackelford, brothers, John Bottorff and Bill Bottorff, as well as cousins, extended family and friends.

A memorial celebration will be held from 2-4 pm, on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Rd.
