Shirley was born July 20, 1934 to Fred and Katherine Mae (Bowers) Michal.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three sons, Robert E. Jr.; Michal R., and Gary S. Landers; and a brother, Edward “Mike” Michal.
Shirley was retired from Naval Ordnance in Louisville. She was a safety specialist and loved her job very much.
Shirley formerly lived in Crescent Hill where she raised her children, and belonged to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Butchertown. Since 1993 she had lived in Indiana.
Shirley never met a stranger. She had the biggest heart, and never turned anyone away. She had an open door policy. She helped everyone. She had numerous foster children and grandchildren other than her own. She was known as Grandma or Gran to many. She was definitely our angel on earth.
Mom was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She went through so many tragedies in her life but she always held her head up and pushed forward. She always told us, “what don’t kill you will make you stronger”. And she lived by those words. She had so many words of wisdom. She would help you with any problems you were having. She was our real Ann Landers. Momma May God Bless You and embrace you as you have done to so many and may God welcome you home. You may be gone but never forgotten. You are our Angel. Until we meet again.
Shirley is survived by two sons, David B. Landers and Jeffrey T. Landers, Sr. (Millie); daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Landers Ely; grandchildren, Mickey, Beth Ann, Kimberly (Johnny), Margo (Santi), Jennifer (Edwin), Gary (Xochitt), Anna, Valarie, Cody, Tyler, Jeffery Jr., Brooklyn, Chaz, and Shane; great-grandchildren, Jasmin, Christopher, Ariel, Miguel, Elena, Alex, Reyna, Brianna, Rheanna, Arionna, and Dejon .
Special thanks to extended family Gladys Merideth, Ken Foster, Billy and Jennifer Frye, Regina Moore, Judy Judd and to Hosparus.
