Sherry L. Newsome, 65, of Louisville, Kentucky joined her mother, Jearl Newsome, in Heaven on February 11, 2023. Here to cherish her memory is her father, Jonas Newsome, and a host of family and friends that loved and respected her. She will be greatly missed and remembered with much love. May she rest in peace.
Sherry worked at Norton Audubon Hospital for 31 years and Kindred Hospital of Louisville for 13 years from which she retired. She started her career as a registered nurse and spent many years dedicated to this calling. Having achieved multiple degrees, including a Master of Business Administration and Master of Healthcare Administration. She also was a member of American Organization Operating Room Nurses and Kentucky Organization of Nurse Leaders. Sherry retired as Director of Nursing and Clinical Services in April of 2022.
Many things brought great joy to Sherry throughout her life. She loved a good game of cards and mostly played Shanghai. Visiting the casino to play slots is something she also enjoyed. For her parents 50th anniversary, Sherry took her parents on a trip to Las Vegas. This was not only a wonderful trip but also exciting for it was her mother's first time on a plane.
Ballroom dancing was a passion Sherry had. She was an accomplished competitive dancer and belonged to the U.S. Amateur Ballroom Dancers Association.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. Sherry would make her house a showcase during the holidays hosting many parties for her family, friends, and coworkers. This past year her living room and Christmas tree all were Grinch themed.
Sherry loved to travel and to see the sites. She enjoyed countless memories to so many places on family vacations but lots of these were to beaches. More recently, vacations were with a group of friends that also included family. One of the best to New York City for Christmas window gazing and shopping. It turned out to be a beautiful nor’easter snow covered city that made the trip magical- as can be seen in her portrait.
Sherry absolutely loved ice-cream. Once on vacation she visited a ice-cream shop so many times they filled a rewards card and earned a free ice-cream.
Perhaps Sherry’s greatest love was her pug Caesar. Caesar became her fur baby in January of 2007 and they immediately had a very special bond. When on vacation, Sherry often joked that his boarding at the pet hotel had more posh amenities then she had. She nursed him throughout many ailments and illnesses. Caesar passed in February of 2020 at the age of 13 years and 4 months. Her heart was terribly broken and took much time to heal. Sherry finally adopted a new fur baby pup, Max, last May.
The family would like to sincerely thank all of the doctors, nurses, and therapists that took wonderful care of Sherry, especially Signature Healthcare Rehab for caring so lovingly and making the family comfortable in a most difficult time. Also, a huge thank you to her cousin Tracye Switzer, Aunt Jeri Johnson, and her best friend Sherri Lang for all of the help they provided as caregivers.
