84, of Louisville passed away Saturday, September 7, 2013. He was a loving and generous husband, father, brother and friend. Roy was a proud Purple Heart veteran of the Korean War and served in the combat infantry. He retired from the University of Louisville after 28 years of service in the field of finance.
Roy was born in Russell County, Kentucky to Joe and Martha Polston. He was a graduate of Lindsey Wilson College and Bowling Green Business University which is now part of Western Ky. University. He also received a Master’s Degree in Business from the University of Louisville. He was a member of Christ Church United Methodist . Working hard, caring for and loving his family were a big part of his life. He enjoyed his retirement by taking up golf and hit his last golf ball at the Red Open Memorial Golf Scramble which is held in memory of his son, Steve. He enjoyed all time spent outdoors and his hobby of custom framing.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roy Steven, his parents, his brother Joe Jr., sisters Juanita Polston and Lucille Blakey.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances Blakey Polston and his daughter Pamela Polston, brothers Bob of Louisville, Ed (Kenia) of Tampa, Florida and a sister Wanda Kirchhoff (Fred) of Hernando Beach, Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
His family would like to express their thanks to the nurses, aids and staff at Westport Place Health Campus for their care and compassion during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Wednesday at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home at Westport Village. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4-8 pm.
