Her life was filled with love for family and faith in God through Christ Jesus. She demonstrated love for children, music, missions, sewing, and education. As a teen, she sang in rescue missions, a talent she developed and performed throughout her life, most recently in her assisted living home in Nacogdoches, Texas. Her faith was key to her life. She served God with her heart, soul and mind.
She married Willis Tassie and lovingly cared for their family as he served in WW2. After the war, they worked and raised four children, providing a nurturing and supportive home. They helped start churches in Hawaii and Kentucky working as a team.
Education was her passion; she earned three Master’s degrees. She taught science, and was a counselor in Louisville Schools. She shared her faith and music with children at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church. A constant student of the Bible, she was an excellent Bible teacher for all ages. Her creative lessons are lasting, from the three-year old’s music to mature women’s in-depth classes!
Roberta was preceded in death by dear family: Willis Henry Tassie, her faithful husband of 71 years, son, Mark Tassie, and mother, Myrtle Clifton. Left cherishing her memory are: son, Timothy (Carolyn) Tassie; daughters Susan Lynch, and Nancy (Jim) Elder; and daughter-in-law, Dianne Tassie. She is survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson, brother, John, and other extended family. She was loved and respected by many friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, Oct.2, at 2:00pm, at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will precede the service noon to 2:00pm at the funeral home.
