Robert (Bob) Edward Watson went home to be with the Lord at the age of 96 on February 12, 2024. He died peacefully at home. He was born August 26, 1927 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, the son of George William and Ethel (Hart) Watson, grandson of David L. Watson, great great-grandson of Martha Boone. He is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Eva (Hammond) Watson and his brother John. He is survived by his 4 children: Ken (Anne), Janice, Doug (Tammy), and Kim (David), 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Robert was a retired manager for L&N/ CSX Railroad in Louisville, Kentucky and
Jacksonville, Florida with 41 years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II, aboard a troop transport ship. He also served in both Army and Navy Reserves.
Robert was also a retired minister in the Christian Church. He and his wife Eva were dedicated servants of the Lord and served together in various churches in Kentucky, Indiana, and Florida. They include: Knob Creek Union Church in Bullitt County, Kentucky, West Point Christian Church, Alpha Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana, Keystone Heights Christian Church in Florida, Union Grove Christian Church in Bedford, Kentucky, Medora Christian Church in Valley Station, Kentucky, and Union Chapel Christian Church in Laconia, Indiana. Bob and Eva are members of Hikes Point Christian Church.
The family is thankful that he is now able to rest with the Lord and all his loved ones who have gone before. Bob was a giving father, a good provider, a hard-worker, always supporting his children and helping others. He enjoyed working in the yard, reading the newspaper, and playing cards.
Bob’s family would like to extend special thanks to caregivers Alberta Hanserd and Billie McDill, who have become a part of our family. Because of their excellent care, with the help of providers from Senior Helpers, especially Jaye Parran, he was able to continue living at home, according to his wishes. We wish to express gratitude to frequent visitors from Hikes Point Christian Church and for the prayers and thoughts of many friends and family members. We are also grateful to Hosparus Health for helping him be comfortable in his last months of life. We appreciate all who join us to celebrate Bob’s life.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218).
Visitation will be prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Louisville Bible College or Hosparus Health of Louisville.
