Robert James Higgins, Sr.

Robert James Higgins, Sr. Passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Robert was born in Louisville on March 26, 1938, to the late Robert and Opal Higgins. He is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Vance Jacob Knight; sister, Louise Anna Neal; and his canine companion, Magoo.

During high school Robert met the love of his life and lifetime companion, Beverly Vance. After high school he joined the United States Air Force married Beverly. The two started a family and spent the next 69 years adoring their three children, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Robert and Beverly were always the happiest surrounded by family.

Robert had many hobbies and interests, line dancing, running 5k’s and was a top competitor for his age group with the Iroquois Hill Runner’s. He has also run the Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon, the Boston Marathon and Honolulu Marathon.

After retirement, Robert and Beverly were able to enjoy summers at Lake Cumberland and winters in Ft. Myers.

Robert is survived by his loving wife of almost 70 years, Beverly (Vance) Higgins; children, Vicki Fried (Buddy), Terri Knight (Mike), and Robert Higgins, Jr. (Monica); grandchildren, Dana, Aaron, Gala, Angela, Shannon, Eric, and Nolan; seven great grandchildren; and canine companion, Boogie.

Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 4 pm until 8 pm and on Thursday, from 9 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
