It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce the passing of Robert “Robbie” Eugene Hawkins, our cherished oldest son, brother and friend. Robbie was taken from us unexpectedly at the age of 23 on Wednesday, March 13th. Since the day he was born on November 21, 2000, Robbie has brought nothing but laughter and joy to everyone who knew him. He truly was the light of our world, and the best big brother to Matthew.
Robbie was an accomplished athlete and an even more exceptional student. His dedication, hard work, and passion for learning were evident in the classroom and on the soccer pitch. Along with his achievements, Robbie was known for his intelligence and quick wit. He graduated valedictorian from Louisville Male High School in 2019. At Male, his dedication as a Varsity soccer athlete, inspired his teammates and coaches alike, and he earned several awards including Student Athlete of the Year. He was a lifelong Louisville Cardinals supporter and was so excited to attend the University of Louisville. He excelled there and graduated summa cum laude with honors in 2023. He helped start the University of Louisville Men’s Club Soccer Team, Dean’s Scholar, Student Honors Program, Biology Major, and Psychology Minor.
Robbie will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends. He loved spending time with his family. Though his time with us was too short, Robbie’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind an immeasurable loss to his family and friends, and in this time of profound grief, we find comfort in the memories we shared with Robbie.
He is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Pam, his brother Matthew, and his girlfriend of almost 3 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Burton. He was so close to his parents, brother, and girlfriend. His dog Jax will also miss him and his hugs dearly. Robbie was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert and Yvonne Hawkins and Eugene and Louise Doda. He also has many aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be on Sunday, March 17th from 1:00 – 7:00 pm at Arch L. Heady & Son at Westport Village, 7410 Westport Rd. A service to celebrate Robbie’s life will be conducted in the chapel of Arch L. Heady & Son on Monday, March 18th at 11:00 am and burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. A reception will follow the burial services from 2:00-4:00 pm at Springhurst Clubhouse, 4200 Springhurst Boulevard, Louisville, KY 40241.
A scholarship will be set up at the University of Louisville in Robbie’s name for suicide prevention education. Once established, a donation link will be posted on Facebook under Mark Hawkins.
