Born in Louisville Kentucky on July 1, 1966, Robert was the son of Terry Wayne Chapman and Patricia Jean Holland Bass. Robert graduated from Oldham County High School in 1984. He then went to Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated in 1989 with a Bachelors in Political Science. Robert also attended ROTC while at Eastern and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry upon graduation. Robert entered his military service in 1985 as an enlisted Military Policeman with the KY National Guard. He served in this capacity until commissioned a second lieutenant and served in the US Army's 101s' Airborne Division. Upon separation from active duty, Robert reentered the KY National Guard until retiring at the rank of Major, as an Intelligence Officer.
Upon leaving active duty, Robert started his law enforcement career with the Louisville Department of Corrections. Robert then transferred to the Metro Division of Police and retired from the police department with the rank of Sergeant. Robert was highly decorated during his service to both the police department and the United States Army. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Assault badge, Airborne wings, 101st Airborne division combat patch, and numerous other awards and decorations while serving in the Army. Robert served in many countries during his military career including Germany, Bosnia, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq. Robert also served in Operations Desert Shield/Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom.
His parents, Charles Joseph & Patricia Jean Holland Bass; & sister, Shonna Lynn Chapman, precede Rob in his passing.
Left to cherish his unforgettable memory is his father, Terry Wayne Chapman; brother & sisters, Stephen (Barbara) Bass, Pamela Barger, Stacey (Barry) Nall & Melinda Mohammed; many nieces, nephews, cousins & loved ones; plus, a host of other relatives & friends to not only mourn his passing but celebrate his life.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. In accordance to his wishes cremation will follow & Rob will laid to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums at a later date with Military Funeral Honors. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Service by the Fraternal Order of Police beginning at 7:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home.
In lieu of customary expressions of sympathy & flowers, memorial donations in honor of Rob are requested to be made to the Ukrainian War Efforts.
