She was born July 7, 1942 in Louisville, the daughter of Carl and Juanita (Cannady) Hiltz. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Mathis Purcell, Jr.; step-son, Roger Purcell and one sister, Carol Adcock.
Rita was a homemaker, volunteer at the Salvation Army for over 43 years and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include her son, Michael Purcell; two step-daughters, Katherine Mayfield and June Deeley; sister, Sarah Knoop; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A service to celebrate Rita’s life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 14, 2016 in the chapel of Arch L. Heady-Cralle Funeral Home, 2428 Frankfort Ave. with burial to follow at Valley Cemetery in Taylorsville, KY. Visitation will be from 2-8 PM on Wednesday and from 9AM until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may be given to the Salvation Army.
