He was a loving father and brother, and a loyal friend. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger.
Richard was the owner/operator of Benningfield Construction, a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church, and a member of Valley Masonic Lodge 511.
He is survived by a son, Richard Bryan Benningfield (Lindsay); a daughter, Ashley Jean Benningfield (Dave Dent); sisters, Ruby Davis (Leon), Judy Adams (David), Patricia Smith (Jim), and Nancy Edwards (Joe); brothers, Randall Benningfield (Stella), David Benningfield (Charlene), and Paul Benningfield; and one grandson, David Dent.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Thelma Benningfield; brothers, Charles and Wilbur Benningfield; and sisters Juanita Beauchamp and Genrose Wright.
His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday at Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Hwy, followed by burial at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Larue County. Visitation will be from 2-8 pm Monday.
