Regina Catherine Weedman, a cherished mother, grandmother, and a steadfast pillar of our community, peacefully departed from our midst on September 27, 2023, surrounded by her adoring family. She was 92 years old.
Born on October 26, 1930, in Louisville, KY, Regina developed an enduring affection for the city that would become her lifelong home. She was the beloved daughter of Edwin and Josephine Kaiser, and her upbringing instilled in her a deep commitment to family values and community engagement, principles that profoundly shaped her life's path. Regina shared 53 wonderful years of her life with her late husband, David Lee Weedman, Sr., whose passing in 2002 left an indelible void in her heart. Together, they embraced retirement as an opportunity to travel, savoring the world's beauty.
Regina's professional journey began after her graduation from Ahrens Trade School, where she dedicated herself to the service industry. Her career culminated at JCPenney, where she retired after 25+ years with fond memories of her time in the bookkeeping department. Her enduring friendships with colleagues were evident as they continued to gather for lunches, the most recent being as recent as July.
Beyond her work, Regina was a devoted member of our community, a longstanding presence at Lynnhurst United Church of Christ and an active participant in the St. Matthew's Women's Club.
In her leisure moments, Regina found solace in reading, crafting, and engaging in spirited card games. Her competitive spirit was renowned among friends and family, and her commitment to fitness was evident in her participation at Curves, Planet Fitness, and her regular walks.
Regina's greatest delight in life was her family. She was an unwavering mother to her two children, David (Melissa) Weedman and Donna (Terry) Powers, and an affectionate grandmother to her four cherished grandchildren: Michael Weedman, Aaron (Carrie) Weedman, Rachel (Joe) Vessels, and Sarah Weedman. Her home perpetually resonated with laughter, affection, and the sweet aroma of her famous homemade Christmas cookies. Family gatherings at Regina's residence were precious moments, leaving an enduring mark on all fortunate enough to attend.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Regina is survived by six great-grandchildren: Hannah Weedman, Mason Weedman, Michael W. Weedman, Benjamin Vessels, Brindley Weedman, and Jackson Vessels. She is also remembered fondly by numerous special nieces and nephews, as well as her grand and great-grand "furs" and "fish."
Regina was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters, one brother, a daughter-in-law, and a son-in-law.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael D. Weedman, Aaron Weedman, Joe Vessels, Hannah Weedman, Mason Weedman, Michael W. Weedman, Benjamin Vessels, Brindley Weedman, and Jackson Vessels.
Regina “Jean” Catherine Weedman will forever be remembered for her unwavering kindness, boundless love for her family, infectious laughter, and her tireless dedication to making the world a better place. Her enduring legacy will serve as an inspiration to us all.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40213.
