Ralph "Jim" Wood

Ralph “Jim” Wood, age 83 passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was born April 30, 1940, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Jim joined the National Guard in 1957 and served the United States Army until 1961 and was Honorably Discharged in 1963. Jim was sent out from Hempfield Church of Christ as their first Timothy. He graduated from Johnson Bible College in 1965 and was Vice President of his class. After graduating he preached at Wallins Christian Church in Wallins Creek, KY and in November of 1966 began preaching at the West End Christian Church in Louisville, KY, which was later renamed Heavenly Heights Christian Church, until 1988. From 1989 to 1997 he preached at Camden Avenue Christian Church, Bethany Christian Church, Marengo Christian Church, and Shepherdsville Christian Church. In 1997 he began his ministry at New Liberty Christian Church where, after 26 years, he preached his last sermon on June 4, 2023. In addition to his ministry, he was on the board of the Christian Church Homes of Kentucky (1967 - 2004), former Chaplin for the FOP Lodge 77, and current Chaplin for the Flags for Vets.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Fox Wood and Hannah M. (Lopes) Wood.

He is survived by his loving family, sister, Mae Bee Romisher; daughter, Beth Ann (Tim) Shake; son Jim (Kelly) Wood; grandchildren, Timothy (Caleigh) Shake Jr., Sherri Shake, Courteney Shake, Landon Wood, Marisa Wood, and Liam Wood; great-grandchildren Nova Weilage and Iliza Weilage.

A visitation for Jim will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218).

A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven.

In Lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial gifts be made to Flags for Vets, United States Army- Military Funeral Division, or the charity of your choice.
