His grandparents were Wash and Millie Sanders of Cub Run, Kentucky and John M. and Ida Cain of Mammoth Cave, who have also preceded him in passing.
Norman graduated from Mt. Washington high school in 1966 and attended University of Louisville. He then joined the US Army Corps of Engineers and after 26 years of working in Louisville, Kentucky, Grand Junction, Colorado, Anchorage, Alaska and Washington, North Carolina he retired.
While with the federal government, Norman worked 23 Federal Disasters all over the United States. He received a liver transplant at Duke University in 1991. He also worked for Home Depot for 14 years after returning to Louisville in 1996. Norman served as Treasurer for Second Chance at Life for many years. Was Ambassador for Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates since 1996. Worked with many health fairs, having signed up over 300 organ donors. Norman was also a Kentucky Colonel, a diehard UK basketball fan, and collected Tony Stewart NASCAR items along with Coca-Cola items and baseball cards.
Norman joined Jaycees in 1975, he served as the local director in Louisville Kentucky. He was also the local director for the Community Development, Vice President and President of the Grand Junction, Co Jaycees, Muscular Dystrophy Program Manager and Regional Vice President of the Colorado Jaycees and Management Developer Vice President of the Alaska Jaycees. He served as president of the Kentucky JCI Senate from 2008 - 2009.
Norman is survived by his sisters; Zelma Wilson, Sandy Ashley, Paula Meredith, Kaye Ray, all of Brownsville, Kentucky, Carla Decker, and Regina Wood, both of Smiths Grove Kentucky and several nieces and nephews and cousins, His extended family; Martha and Johnny Hodge, Vickie Stow, Bob and Mary Bremm, Glen and Sheri Taylor, Jamie, Angie, Tiffany and Braxton Hill, all of Louisville.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 14 from 11 to 2 PM with the funeral to follow at Arch L Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd., Louisville, KY 40218. Mr. Sanders will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
