Muriel was born May 21, 1935 in West Chesterfield, NH, the youngest daughter of Wilder and Ardelle (Hudson) Haskell. She moved with her family to Arizona, graduating from Casa Grande H.S. where it was frequently said that she was never at a loss for words! She was married to Douglas Sanders on July 3, 1954, in Tucson. After graduating from Good Samaritan Nursing School in Phoenix, she worked as a nurse for over 28 years for Family Physicians (Dr. Noel Smith). She was active with the Good Samaritan Hospital Alumni Association for over 35 years. Inspired by her husband’s passion for flying, she obtained a private pilot’s license, eventually earning a commercial rating, and was a member of The Ninety-Nines, an International Organization of Women Pilots. After much travel they retired in Show Low, AZ and spent winters in Hawaii. She moved to Kona, Hawaii fulltime in 2008 then later returned to the mainland, residing in the Louisville area until her death.
Muriel is survived by her four daughters, Leann (Rick) Fields of Big Pine, CA, Brenda (Brian) Luna of Las Vegas, NV, Debra (Robert) Buehring of Charlestown, IN and Susan Sanders of San Francisco, CA; Sister, Natalie Benjamin) Watson, of Mobile, AL; six grandchildren, Scott, Jerrod (Dasha) Williams of Orange County, CA, Kristin Williams of San Francisco, CA, John Maland of Las Vegas, NV, Bradley (Lucy) Buehring of Brooklyn, NY, and Jeffrey Buehring, of Jeffersonville, IN; great granddaughters, Destiny & Serenity Maland of Clovis, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Douglas; parents, Wilder & Ardelle Haskell; brothers, Wilder Jr. & Waldon, and sister Lorraine Benge.
