Our beloved Mom, Mary Ann Wagner, passed away quietly in her Louisville, Kentucky home on Saturday, January 20th. She joined our Dad, John Peter Wagner, her husband of 63 years, in whatever awaits us in the afterlife.
She was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1927 to Martha and James Meek, and grew up with her five siblings, including twin sister, Elizabeth. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and worked for many years at Bell Telephone and Bell Labs. After marrying John, they moved to Union, New Jersey where they raised 3 children on Layton Drive, and continued to live there for 56 years. Mary and John moved to Louisville, Kentucky in 2011.
Mary was a great and loving Mom who played a big role in the lives of her kids and grandchildren. She had a happy (occasionally goofy) way about her that brightened the day of anyone she talked to. Heartfelt talks and laughter were guaranteed in every conversation and Sunday phone call (even if she put the iPhone to her ear when she would FaceTime), and she adored her grandchildren, embracing the role of Grandma with all the love in her heart. Mary was deeply loved by all, and in her unassuming way will be missed far more than she ever could have imagined.
Mary is survived by her three children, Maryellen Wagner Zalewski and her husband Walter of Louisville, KY, John P. Wagner, Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Cocoa, Florida, and William T. Wagner and his wife Donna of Los Altos, California; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Melissa, and Julia Wagner also of Los Altos, California.
