Mary Catherine Schefstad Furman, age 71, entered into eternal rest on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish where she crocheted Baby Baptismal afghans for many years as well as for some daycares. She was a retired Public Health Nurse from the Louisville Metro Health Department. She was co-chairperson of Creating Lasting Connections while a member of St. Edward Parish where she also taught CCD and was a member of the choir. She was recognized by the KYANG for immunization guidelines and requirements in 1993, in 2001 as a Champion for Children by Jefferson County Public Schools and she was recognized at the 26th Annual KY Nursing Excellence Recognition Banquet in 2007. There are many other letters of recommendation and appreciation from the Archdiocese of Louisville, Jefferson County Public Schools, Dismas Charities and other businesses that she interacted with.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Miller Schefstad and her father WJ "Shep" Schefstad of Altamonte Springs, FL.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 47 years, Richard; son, John (Michelle) of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Deanna Forsythe (Matt) of Carmel, IN and Christina Bryant of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Madison, Brigham and Katherine Forsythe, Cameron Bryant and Avery Garcia-Reyes and step-grandson, Michael Forsythe; siblings, Steven Schefstad (Jan) of John's Creek, GA, Jean Guerrette (Jim) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Julia Mansfield (David) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Theresa Schefstad of St. Pete Beach, FL, Anthony Schefstad (Carol) of Altamonte Springs, FL, Linda Schefstad of Casselberry, FL, and Michael Schefstad (Sonja) of Altamonte Springs, FL; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and dear friends.
A visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, Louisville, Kentucky 40219.
