Martha was a daughter of Lucy and John Crady, and the loving wife of the late Robert D. Collett for nearly 50 years. She is survived by her sister, Dory Schneider of Billings, MT; and her daughters, Bonnie C. Sexton of Austin, TX; and Dr. Bobbie C. Sutton of Union, MI.
Martha had a cheerful, outgoing personality and a practical, can-do attitude in life. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky in an era when few women entered higher education. She became a teacher, and taught Art and English in the Jefferson County Public School system for some thirty years. Through her work in the classroom she touched the lives of many in the community, first at Valley High School, then at Robert Frost Middle School. Later in life, she became a local artist, creating wheel thrown pottery and painting with watercolors. She was a faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church for much of her adult life
Martha lived a happy, rich and active life well into her twilight years. She was loved and admired by those who knew her, both friends and family. She will be missed by us all.
Martha’s funeral service will be held on Friday at 12noon at the Advantage Funeral Home – Hardy Chapel, with burial to follow in Bethany Memorial Cemetery. Her visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8pm at the funeral home.
