Martha was raised in a strong Episcopalian family. She was baptized in the oldest church (St. John's) in Richmond, VA where Patrick Henry gave his famous speech "Give me liberty or give me death!".
Martha attended Eastern High School where she met her soulmate Jerry. They would remain friends until the day they would marry on June 23, 1967, and spend 54 beautiful years together. Throughout her life she would take classes at JCC, where she earned a Certificate of High Distinction for Academic Achievement. She loved to learn and over the years continued her studies in art, history, psychology, sociology, and psychiatry.
Martha and Jerry loved to travel together and headed for the mountains every chance they could get. Some of their favorite destinations were Gatlinburg, England, Scotland, Hawaii, San Francisco, Acapulco, Florida, New Orleans, and they loved to take Cruises.
Throughout her life one of her greatest joys was to donate her time and talents to the church and to charity. She found pure joy in giving back to the church and bringing new individuals to God.
Martha was very real with her own struggles with mental health. She knew the tolls of bi-polar disease and the problems it caused for individuals and families. She was one of the featured individuals in the novel by Bob Hill, "The Survivors" underwritten by Sally Bingham. In lieu of flowers Martha would love for donations to be made to the Our Lady of Peace Library in her Name.
