residence.
Born August 7, 1966, to Herbert V. McCubbins, Jr. and Geneva A. (Jackson) Loy.
He married the love of his life, Louella Lynn Beswick on May 23, 1987. They have four wonderful,
sometimes wild and crazy, children and nine even more wild and crazy grandchildren who refer
to him as G-paw. One thing for sure, life never was boring. We often joked about writing a book
but no one would believe all the crazy stuff these kids have done.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Herbert and brother, Matthew.
He is survived by his wife, Louella McCubbins; three daughters, Brandi (Eric) Rayburn, Courtney
(Kenneth, Jr) Allgeier, Kristen (Donald) Carder, and son, Justin McCubbins; nine grandchildren,
Traityn Rayburn, Keagan Rayburn, Camdyn Rayburn, Coltyn Rayburn, Kenneth Allgeier, III, Ella
Allgeier, Waylon Carder, James Carder, and Elizabeth Carder; his mother, Geneva (Samuel) Loy
and many other dear relatives and friends.
Mark was baptized as a teenager at his neighborhood church, Eastern Parkway Baptist. Mark
and his family joined East Audubon Baptist Church on January 9, 2009. A few years later Mark
became a Trustee and then he was ordained as a Deacon on August 20, 2017.
Mark was a member of the Mohawk Dance Team when he was a teenager. He enjoyed going to
Munfordville on weekends to visit family and enjoy the country life, except working in the garden
which his mom and dad made him do. He loved telling stories about “the good ole days” and how
simple life was back then. Oh, and yes, he was raised in “The good ole days”. We were told many
times how he had to walk for miles in a blizzard to get to school and it was uphill fighting bears
with his loose leaf notebook, so suck it up buttercup.
He never met a stranger, just ask any of his children. They called everyone he met his 5-minute
friends, even though he would not allow them (his kids) to talk to strangers. He was a fun loving,
kind and caring man who enjoyed hunting and fishing but his greatest enjoyment was spending
time with his family. I’m not saying he was always a teddy bear, most of the time he was a grizzly
bear. He growled more than anything, that is until his grandkids started growling back.
Most of you who have known Mark since his younger days, know that he was a KISS fan. He
knew more about that band than anyone should. He was also an Elvis fan and finally got to see
Graceland in 2021. Sometimes he would even listen to classical music and drive his kids crazy.
He was a Marvel Universe fan, and his favorite character was Spiderman. One of his favorite
cartoons as a child was Speed Racer. He loved Nascar especially the Intimidator, Dale Earnhardt.
He loved his Kentucky Wildcats or was it the Louisville Cardinals? No, it was Kentucky. I guess it
just depends which decade it is or who’s coaching the team. He just didn’t like Rick Pitino, sorry
to those of you who are a fan.
One thing he never waivered on is his love for the Chicago Bears. He was a lifelong Chicago
Bears fan, even before the Refrigerator Perry was on the team, which by the way is the last time
they won the Superbowl. None of us really could figure out why he loved the Bears, except he
must have felt sorry for them. Maybe because he always rooted for the underdog. We respectfully
requested six Chicago Bears pallbearers so the Bears can let him down one last time. However,
they declined due to they can’t afford to miss any practice time.
If you really know Mark, then you know he wouldn’t want you to sit around and cry over him, since
this means he didn’t kick cancers butt. He would want you all to tell each other stories about his
life “back in the day” and truly celebrate and have a party. Well, he would want us to be a little
sad.
Most importantly, you never saw Mark without a Pepsi or Marlboro. So, our deepest condolences
go to the Pepsi and Marlboro companies, due to the fact they will undoubtedly suffer great
financial losses and need to layoff several employees now that he won’t be supporting them
financially. We need to keep these companies, the employees and their families in our prayers.
He was a regular at “his” Kroger on Poplar Level Road and I mean he went every day. He knew
almost all the employees and became close to the pharmacy staff (The A Team) because of all
the meds the oncologist put him on for the cancer. They will probably suffer a financial loss as
well, so keep them in your prayers.
He was definitely an uber driver (free, of course) since he had a wife and four children. Mark
would always call or text and say “I’m at the light” when he was picking someone up. He wanted
you to think he would be there in 1-minute or less even if he was 10-minutes away. Well Mark,
you are finally “at the light”.
Memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, KY 40213, with a service to honor the life of Mark to follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in honor of Mark may be directed to: East Audubon Baptist Church, 1767 Belmar Drive, Louisville, KY 40213.
