Born September 15, 1923 in Bonita, Wisconsin, She spent her early years growing up in Knott County, KY.
Margaret married Cullen B. Slone, Sr. August 9, 1945 in Whitesburg, KY.
She attended Alice Lloyd College in Pippa Passes, KY. Her husband was a career soldier with post-war duty stations at Fort Campbell, KY, Frankfurt Germany and Fort Knox, KY.
She was a long time member of Beechland Baptist Church.
Margaret worked in local schools as a teacher's aide and resource person. She was always active in Girl Scouts, PTA and the PRP Women's Club. Margaret and her husband enjoyed a summer home back in the hills of Kentucky where they gardened, visited old haunts and relatives. She was also a member of the 5th Infantry Divisions Women's Auxiliary and enjoyed travelling to their reunions all across the country.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Cullen; parents, William Barlow and Marinda (Napier) Shepherd; brothers, David, Raymond and William "Monty" Shepherd; and sisters, Cora Perkins (Troy), Lillian Shoun (Lynn) and Hazel Shell (Albert).
Margaret is survived by a daughter, Linda Grantz (Butch); a son, Cullen Slone, Jr. (Becky); three grandchildren, Paul Slone (Manderly), Jason Slone (Callie) and Chad Grantz; three great-grandchildren, Kevin, Natalie and Isabella Slone; two brothers, Joseph Shepherd (Melva) and Oscar Shepherd (Diane); and two sisters, Marlene Hurt (Don) and Gertrude Kreig.
Her funeral will be on Wednesday at 2pm at the Heady-Hardy Funeral Home, 7710 Dixie Highway, with interment following in Bethany Memorial Cemetery. Visiting will be in Wednesday from 10am until the time of service.
