Lucy Howard Perry was born on a rainy Friday on October 18, 1935 at Gunlock, Magoffin County, Ky., the youngest child of Maudie Howard and Callie Howard. She attended the Kentucky School for the Blind in Louisville when she was younger, then ended her education at the Head of Licking School with her brothers Harold and Tilden as teachers.
In 1959. Lucy returned to Louisville and found a job at The American Printing House for the Blind. In 1969, she began working as a vendor at the Civic Center in Frankfort through the Business Program of the Kentucky Department for the Blind. Lucy retired at the age of 83, but still missed talking with her coworkers and customers.
She married Jack Thurman Perry in Louisville on December 22, 1960. They spent 64 wonderful years together. Lucy was baptized at the Clifton Baptist Church in the same neighborhood where she and Jack first lived.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, Callie Joseph; brothers, Tilden, Johnnie and Ken; sisters, Thelma, Mazie Coffey, and Alta Vanderpool; brothers and sisters in law, Effie, Cleo, Dee, Dora Lee, and Dan Coffey. Left to cherish Lucy’s memory, is her beloved husband of 64 years, Jack Thurman Perry; her brother, Harold Howard, sister-in-law, Marlene Howard and brother-in-law, Hayes Vanderpool.
The family requests that any donations be made to the Kentucky School for the Blind.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4623 Preston Hwy, Louisville, Kentucky 40213, with a service to follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Lucy will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
