After years of fighting my battle against Adeno Carcinoma, I have finally won and now sit at the feet of Jesus. I have been truly blessed to have my husband Tom by my side the past 30+ years. He has not only been my best friend and devoted husband but has been my world since the day we met. He has been a wonderful father to our 3 sons who I am so proud of and who are doing amazing things with their lives. Ryne (34) lives in eastern Washington state with his wife Megan and two beautiful sons Kason (7) and Kai (3). William (29) lives in Utah with his wife, Monroe. Nicholas (26) lives in western Washington state with his wife, Emily.
I was born in 1965, in Louisville, Kentucky and grew up in Lebanon Junction. In 1987, I graduated from Jefferson Community College with a degree in Physical Therapy. I married my high school sweetheart, Darryl Stopher, that same year. Darryl tragically lost his life in a vehicle collision in 1991. Tom and I were married in 1994, and we moved to Washington to raise our family. I spent my adult life working as a Physical Therapist Assistant, and truly enjoyed working with elderly patients. I also enjoyed teaching faith formation classes for many years at our local church, and in my last years was fortunate to live close to my mother and siblings, back in Kentucky.
I am joining my dad, John (Bud) Ritter and my grandparents Sherrill and Ruth Ritter, Alton and Sarah Hahn, as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. I leave on Earth my mom, Joyce, as well as siblings Rhonda Ford, Larry Ritter, Bill Ritter (Diane), Linda Miller (Ken) and Paula Capps (Terry).
During our life together, Tom and I have been truly blessed to have met so many wonderful friends during his time in the Army, career as a Washington State Trooper, his time with AAMVA, as well as my time working in Physical Therapy. The past several years has really taken a toll, but I was truly blessed to have Tom by my side as my rock to lift me up on the days I felt I couldn’t go on. This journey has taught me some very valuable insights. One of the most important lessons I learned is that our plans and God’s plans rarely align. Tom and I had planned to travel and see the country in our motorhome after we retired. Two weeks after we sold our house in Olympia, WA, and moved into our RV, I had surgery and was diagnosed with colon cancer. Remember, when making your plans, they really are tentative and our time here on earth is only a pilgrimage; what lies ahead after this is SO much more beautiful and amazing.
Remember, don’t hold grudges. When is the last time you let your friends and family really know how much you appreciate them? Your life would look a lot different without them in it. Spend time with them, put down your phones, pause your work and give them hugs. Tell your kids how proud you are of them and take every opportunity you are given to love them and spend quality time with them.
To all my family and friends, thank you for being there for me. Thank you for all your love and support. I hope to see you again!! With all my love, Lisa
