She was 84 years old. Judith was the daughter of Henry and Elsie Baker Rogers. She was born August 25th, 1939 in Louisville, KY. She was married to Henry Penn Ford on August 7th, 1976. They were married for 26 years. Judith was a 1957 graduate of Eastern High School, a 1961 Bachelor of Arts graduate from Kentucky Wesleyan College, and a Master of Education degree from University of Louisville.
Judith began her teaching career in Fayette County Schools, Lexington, KY in Mary Todd School for two years. She moved back to Louisville to teach Jefferson County Schools at Chenoweth School for 25 years. She retired after 27 years of teaching to begin serving in her church at Crescent Hill United Methodist as a volunteer. She sang in the choir, did visitation to shut-ins, taught Sunday School, and served in leadership positions. She also helped start a Youth Group at Baird Street Mission and worked among the people for 5 years in the Portland area. She joined two other singing groups; the Mellow Dears and The Joyous Singers. She became a member of St. Matthews Homemakers. She was a member of United Methodist Women and participated in leadership on the district and local levels.
Judy also traveled with her husband to several states and countries. She and Henry enjoyed the arts in Louisville: the Louisville Orchestra, Actor’s Theater, and The KY Opera. After his death, Judy added the Ballet and Stage One to her list.
Judy has had wonderful friendships through the years and has cherished each one. She loved all the children she taught and tried to help them in every way in the 2nd through 5th grades. Her love for older adults has been an inspiration to her. Music has been a source of joy, whether listening or singing, all her life. Her relationship with the Lord has been a source of comfort and guidance through worship and prayer alone and with others. Her marriage was the other highlight of her life. She and Henry shared many happy moments in Henry County on their farms with the land, the animals, and the neighbors, as well as enjoying the attributes in the city of Louisville.
Judith was preceded in death by her father and mother, Henry and Elsie Rogers, and her husband Henry Penn Ford. She is survived by her first cousins Mary McCollum, Nancy Baker, Sylvia Baker-Noren, and Ruth Rogers Riddle, and many other cousins and her church family.
Her funeral will be held Monday June 24, 2024 2pm at the Crescent Hill United Methodist Church, 201 S Peterson Ave, Louisville, KY 40206. Visitation will be Sunday June 23, 2024 from 4pm to 8pm at Arch L. Heady – Cralle Funeral Home 2428 Frankfort Avenue, Louisville, KY 40206. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery at 10am prior to the funeral. All those interested may meet at the entrance to the cemetery 15 minutes before to go to the grave site or chapel.
