Juan P. Trujillo, Sr., of Louisville, KY, formerly of Santa Fe, New Mexico, son of the late Epimenio Trujillo and Manuelita Martinez Trujillo, was born January 31, 1925 at La Puenta, New Mexico and departed life on Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was 98 years old. He was a church member at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Pleasure Ridge Park.
He was a career soldier, from 13 May 1944 to 17 May 1975, and he retired at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served with the 45th Infantry Division during WWII, in Italy, Southern France, the Rhineland and central Europe. He was awarded the Silver Star, Purple Heart, 2 Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and many campaign ribbons. He also served with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor, and in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division, for which he received another Bronze Star.
After retirement from the U.S. Army, he worked at the Better Business Bureau in Louisville, KY for 20 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Frieda Kratzer Trujillo, having united in marriage on December 7, 1948.
He is survived by sons Juan Trujillo, Jr., Louisville, KY, and Alfred Trujillo, Nokesville, VA and daughter Sylvia Hassenpour, Louisville, KY; daughter-in-law Kimberly Trujillo, Nokesville, VA; grandchildren Diana Weissman, Andrea Al-Attar, Allison Trujillo, Daniel Trujillo, Olivia Trujillo, Jonathan Trujillo, Tyler Trujillo, and Lauren Trujillo; great grandchildren Toni Weissman, Maren Dombrowsky , Adam Al-Attar and Amir Al-Atar, and great great grandchild Gabriel Dombrowsky.
Mr. Trujillo was also preceded in death by grandchildren Andrew Trujillo, Erica Trujillo and Shawn Trujillo.
A visitation will be held on Friday May 19th at 10:30 with a graveside service with military Honors at Bethany Cemetery.
