Joseph Arthur Schmidt Jr.

passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, February 2nd, 2012 after

a courageous battle with cancer. He was 74.

He was a graduate of the St. Xavier High School class of 1955, a

veteran of the Naval Reserve and a retiree of the Louisville Naval

Ordnance Plant.

He is preceded in death by is mother, Mary E. Schmidt and grandparents,

Henry and Irene Schmidt.

He will be deeply missed by his family and leaves behind to cherish his

memory, his loving and caring wife of 53 years, Mary Joe (Davis)

Schmidt, who loved him dearly and cared unselfishly for him, giving her

whole heart and self to him throughout the three years of his illness.

Her devotion and adoration was an ultimate and true example of God's

love in marriage and an inspiration for all who witnessed it. Also

survived by Joe is his loving father, Joseph Arthur Schmidt, Sr.; his

loving children, David, Diana Franke (Steve), Denny (Jill) and Doug (Rhonda);

nine grandchildren, Jeremy M., Jonathan, Jeremy, Ashley, Miranda,

Olivia, Chase, Joshua, Zachary, Bobby and Brandon and five great grand children; his

brother Henry Schmidt, sisters Marilyn Newman and Connie Thomason.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Mass will be will be conducted Monday, February 6th,

11am at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 7500 Tangelo Drive with entombment to follow at

Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held 2-8 pm Sunday, February 5th, 2012 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven

4400 Bardstown Road.
