Joseph L. "Joe" Hooper, 71, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on the morning of February 26, 2013 at Norton Audubon Hospital with his loving family by his side. Joe was a Baptist by faith and was a lifelong member of the McNeely Lake Optimist Club. He volunteered and was coach of multiple baseball and softball teams through the years. He retired after 45 years in the office supply business. In his early career he had worked as a cab driver and after retirement he worked with Bee Line Delivery as a driver and dispatcher. He was an avid Louisville Cardinal fan, and also enjoyed Nascar and thouroughbred racing. He loved to play bingo and to play his monthly poker games with his longtime pals.
Along with his parents, Joseph and Pansy Bell Hooper he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Burton and sisters, Barbara Hemmingway and Brenda Whalen.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 53 years, Norma Thompson Hooper; daughter, Karen (Ron) Kapfhammer; brother, Donnie Hooper; son-in-law Jim Burton; grandchildren, Kelly (Gene) Reed, Joe and Sarah Burton; great-granddaughter, Sophia Reed and his loving kitties who miss him already, Timmy and Teddy.
His Life Celebration service will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013, at noon at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Chapel, 4400 Bardstown Road, with interment in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be onThursday from 2-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
