A beloved son, brother, teacher, coach, dad, and grandfather, Dick’s life was defined by his love for family and his devotion to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Roberts Young; his stepson, Matthew Roberts Davis; and his brothers, Edwin Samuels Young and Robert Van Young. He is survived by his twin brother, William Bryant Young Jr., as well as his children, Rich Young (Lori), Lawrence Young (Jill), and Mary Taylor Milliner (Tony). He also leaves behind his five cherished grandchildren: Taylor Young (Allen), Tanner Young, Sarah Johnson (Austin), Sydney Burkhart (Aaron), and John Young, who will carry forward his legacy of kindness, strength, and wisdom.
A respected teacher and coach, Dick’s passion for mentoring and supporting young people left a lasting impact on generations of students. He found his greatest joy in watching his grandchildren play sports, cheering them on from the sidelines with pride and love. Family was always at the heart of his life, and he worked tirelessly to create moments of togetherness, ensuring time spent with loved ones was a priority. Dick’s warmth, humor, and unwavering support were constants for those close to him.
His family and friends will gather to honor and celebrate his life in the coming days, finding solace in the many wonderful memories they share. Dick’s presence will be deeply missed, but his influence and love will endure in the lives he touched.
A visitation for Dick will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40218. Dick will be laid to rest privately at Cave Hill Cemetery and Arboretum.
